Using Microsoft Power Point


1. Start Microsoft PowerPoint.
2. In the dialog box click on the right, click on from design template under “New”.
3. Scroll down until you find the template you like and then double click on it or click OK.
4. Click on “new slide” above the slide design box, select title slide (the first one)
5. Select the first box and type “Let’s Do Mardi Gras” You can change all the slide details to reflect your personal taste. Highlight the text to make changes to the font, size, and color of the text. After these changes you may need to resize your text box.
6. Next click on the subtitle box and type “Entertainment with (your name)”

  1. Save your document as Let’s Do Mardi Gras.
  2. Now go to the Insert menu, choose picture, and then clip art.
  3. When the click art box on the right hand side of the screen comes up, type in Mardi Gras in the search box. When you find the one you like double click on it. You may move it around and re-size it on the slide to fit your personal taste.

10. After you’re done with your clip art, click new slide and select the slide with 2 columns. (the fourth one)
11. In the title box above the two columns type “Modes of Transportation”
12. Click in the left column box and enter the following information (press enter after the first line)

  • PPD” Airlines
  • Cost - $450
  • Travel Time – 1 hour
  • Unlimited baggage
  • Snack and beverages provided
  • Movies provided

13. Click on the right column and enter the following information: (again, press enter after the first line)

· Mardi Gras bus line
· Cost - $75
· Travel time – 6 hours
· 2 suitcases
· Bring your own snacks.

  1. Add clip art to go with your mode of travel choices.
  2. Choose a new Slide that has text and chart layout. (under the text and content section)
  3. Title this slide “Transportation Expenses” (you can move the boxes around to suit your slide background.)
  4. Click on the icon with the bar graph.
  5. Where it says 1 type in PPD Airlines. do not resize to fit cell Press tab and then type $450 and press enter.
  6. Where it says 2, type in Mardi Gras Bus. Press tab and then type $75.
  7. At the top of the graph where it says A, type in Cost. Delete any other unnecessary text in the spaces you’re not using on the graph.
Save your presentation.

  1. New slide – Choose the third one under content layouts. (second row, first
one) it has a title and a chart. Title it “Places to Stay”
  1. Click on the bar chart Icon and list the hotels and their prices.
  2. Put the following information in the bar graph:
*Column A – 1Night; Column B – 2nights; Column C - 3Nights; Column D – 5Nights.
*Row 1 – Best Western (press tab after everything you type on the row) Enter these in the following columns: (staring at column A) $150, $275, $400, $500.
*Row 2 – Mardi Gras West (do the same as you did with best western) Enter $175, $310, $450, $525.
*Row 3 – Holiday Inn - $200, $350, $500, $600.

23.Create new slide, choose the one on the 2nd row, 1st slide under content layouts. Title is “Things to See”

  1. Next go to Google.com and click on images, search “Mardi Gras” find a picture you think it suitable for your slide and right click on it and save the picture to your computer.
  2. Go back to PowerPoint, and go to the tool bar at the top of the page, click on insert > picture > from file. Find the picture you saved and double click on it. Reposition and resize the graphic until it’s the way you like it.

Now to draw some attention to your graphics, we’re going to add effects.

1st - Right click on your first graphic and click on Custom Animation, when the side bar comes up, press the “add effect” button.
2nd – Select “Entrance” and the click on the one you think is the coolest way for that graphic to enter the slide (you may want to click on the “more effects” button for more options”.
3rd – When you have decided which one you like, click ok.
4th – Repeat the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd steps for every graphic in your slide show.

24.Add a new slide, use the same one you used for your title slide, and type "Have fun!"
25.Save your presentation, and go to view > slide show.
